ROXAS: ARREST WARRANT FOR DE LA PAZ NEEDS DECISIVE ACTION
SEEKS QUICK RESOLUTION OF "EURO GENERAL" MESS

Liberal President Senator Mar Roxas today urged the Senate leadership to show decisive action in signing the arrest warrant for former Philippine National Police comptroller Eliseo De La Paz, for the quick resolution of the "euro general" controversy.

"What we need is decisive action," said Roxas, vice-chairman of the Senate committee on foreign relations, investigating several PNP officials including De La Paz, who was detained in Moscow two weeks ago after the discovery of undeclared 105,000 euros in his possession.

"Kitang-kita naman natin noong huling hearing na wala silang maibigay na sagot kung saan nanggaling ang pera at kung bakit inaprubahan ito. Hindi rin natin maaasahan ang Ombudsman, na hindi pa umaaksyon kahit kay Joc-Joc. Kaya ang Senado na ang mag-iimbestiga (Let's not wait for the PNP leadership. We can see that even in the last hearing that they could not provide us with answers as to where the money came from and who approved its release. We also can't expect the Ombudsman to act, which hasn't even charged Joc-Joc. So the Senate will be the one investigating)," he said.

Roxas urged Villar nonetheless to call a Senate caucus on the matter, but said that the investigation must continue regardless.

"Importante na kahit walang session ang Senado ay mag-caucus ang mga senador tungkol sa pag-aresto at pag-imbestiga kay De La Paz. Pero pwede nang mauna si Villar sa paglagda ng arrest warrant (It's important that even with no session that the Senate holds a caucus on the arrest and investigation of De La Paz. But Villar can go ahead with signing the arrest warrant)," he said.

The Ilonggo senator also said that PNP Director-General Jesus Versoza must come out in the open on what he and other officials know of the Moscow incident, if it is to clear the name of the PNP.
