Kiko lauds swift action of SC; calls on the government
to act swiftly on criminal cases

Senate Majority Leader and judicial reform advocate Kiko Pangilinan today lauded the Supreme Court (SC) for its swift action on the latest irregularities in the Court of Appeals, and at the same time called for the disbarment of the guilty.

The SC dismissed Justice Vicente Roxas from the service; suspended Justice Jose Sabio Jr. for two months; reprimanded Justices Bienvenido Reyes and Conrado Vasquez; and admonished Justice Myrna Dimaranan-Vidal for committing lapses in handling the case of the Manila Electric Co. (MERALCO) versus the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).

But Kiko said "disbarment cases must also be filed against those found guilty. In addition, those who were not dismissed from the service should seriously consider early retirement in order to shield the Judiciary from greater harm."

"Now is an opportune time to clean up the administration of justice and practice of law in this country by going all out against justices, judges and lawyers who by their acts are ruining and undermining the system of justice. Tama na ang katiwalian, pananamantala, pang-aabuso sa kapangyarihan at bulok na pamamalakad sa gobyerno. Itama na ang hustisya sa bansa," Kiko ended.
