Villar leads relief efforts in Aklan

Senate President Manny Villar today personally led relief operations in typhoon-swept Aklan which has been placed under a state of calamity.

The Nacionalista Party president himself distributed relief goods, particularly in Banga, Numancia, and Kalibo. He was accompanied by Aklan Gov. Carlito Marquez, Vice-Gov. Gabrielle Calizo, Banga mayor Stevens Fuentes, Numancia mayor Ernesto Templonuevo, and Kalibo mayor Raymar Rebaldo.

Based on the report from the Office of Aklan Gov. Carlito Marquez, the disaster inflicted damages at P2.1 billion, severely hitting Kalibo and Numancia.

Since the calamity, Villar has directed a series of relief operations for the victims of typhoon Frank in severely affected areas.

As Senate president, he also initiated "Tulong Kapwa" which gathered donations not only from the Senate but also from other donors. Earlier, Villar gave one year of his salary as a legislator for the relief efforts, aside from many other forms of assistance.

Earlier, Villar also distributed relief goods to his kasimanwas at the Sta. Barbara gym, the Pavia Municipal Hall, the Janiuay Municipal Hall, and at the Dumangas Municipal Hall in Iloilo.

"We continually call on our sympathetic citizens to extend help to thousands of our people who have not yet recovered from the effects of the typhoon. Their upliftment is our topmost concern," said Villar.

Aside from Aklan, the provinces of Iloilo, Capiz, and Antique as well as Iloilo City were placed under a state of calamity in the wake of severe inundations.
