ROXAS IN GERMANY FOR TALKS ON HUMAN RIGHTS AND DEMOCRACY

Senator Mar Roxas, President of the Liberal Party of the Philippines, is in Germany to participate in talks with international leaders and parliamentarians on issues related to human rights and democratic institutions.

"It is a distinct privilege of the LP to be a part of these deliberations on current issues, and on how liberalism and democratic ideals continue to apply in crafting each country's policies," Roxas said.

He said the trip, sponsored by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF), would aid the Liberal Party in evaluating its goals and principles in a global context.

"We want the LP to be a global player in the search for solutions to national problems that are rooted in political institutions. We can learn a lot from the experiences of other countries, in helping us rise out of our present situation. In turn, we have a lot to offer other nations, by highlighting the proud history and legacy of Philippine liberalism," Roxas said.

Roxas serves as panelist for the discussion today on "Freedom, Rule of Law and Democratic Institutions," as part of the International Seminar called "Master Plan 2050 - Strategies for a Free World," which began yesterday evening and was held in the German capital Berlin.

Last Monday, the Senator was invited to represent the LP in the FNF Jubilee Ceremony at the World Conference Center in Bonn, with global icons of liberalism including German Economic Minister Dr. Otto Count Lambsdorff, European Commission Vice-President Simm Kallas and the South African Democratic Alliance President Tony Leon.

Yesterday, Roxas met with four honorary consuls of the Philippines to Germany, Liberal International President Lord Alderdice, FNF Board Chairman Dr. Wolfgang Gerhardt and ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Surin Pitsuwan.
