Students must have global outlook- Angara

"Our youth should be forward-looking, work-oriented and infused with a global outlook to be able to compete in the global environment."

This is what Senator Edgardo J. Angara said during the 2008 Young Leaders Training Conference organized by the Hanns Seidel Foundation, the READ Foundation, the Active Youth Organizations (AYOS) and the Office of Senator Angara.

"We've been hosting this kind of gathering for the youth because we thought we should catch you while you're still young," he told the many students from different universities who participated in the said conference.

Angara said the jobs that many people are doing now may not exist in the next five to ten years citing the drastic change in the working schedule, content of work, and speed of work. "Students must be able to adapt to change because the world is continually changing with the rapid development of information and communication technology (ICT)."

"Information and technology, transportation, and communications are going to transform our lives in the next few years and we want to prepare you (students) for that in order to remain competitive," he said.

"Even the style of teaching is becoming international because of the global effects of the ICT revolution," he added.

He advised the students to learn as much as they can to have a keen understanding and appreciation of other cultures. "You must retain your global perspective in order to take advantage of the global opportunities."
