THE PNP SHOULD NEVER BE AN INSTRUMENT OF REPRESSION --- KIKO

Police efforts to prevent rallyists from reaching protest sites are a blatant disregard and disrespect of constitutionally protected rights of the people to peaceably assemble and redress their grievances, senate majority leader and independent Senator Francis Pangilinan today said.

"The acts by the PNP of preventing rallyists from joining the Makati event is a blatant violation of the constitutionally guaranteed rights of our people. The PNP should uphold the law and should never be the first to break it. They are law enforcers not lawbreakers. The PNP should never be an instrument of repression, ours is a democracy. We aren't under martial law. Ours is not a police state. We condemn these unconstitutional acts of repression. Kiko said.

Kiko furthers that those responsible for said violations of fundamental rights must not be left off the hook unscathed.

"We condemn the violation of our people's political rights. We urge the rallyists and their leaders to file the necessary administrative and criminal cases against the erring PNP personnel," Kiko emphasized.
