ROXAS URGES PNP TO CONDUCT THOROUGH PROBE INTO
COMELEC KILLINGS

Senator Mar Roxas urged the Philippine National Police to conduct a thorough investigation into the recent killings of officers working for the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Roxas said Comelec lawyer Alioden Dalaig and Joseph del Rosario, chief of the Comelec office in Bacoor, Cavite, died in a span of hours in two separate shooting incidents.

"Though these two incidents may be unrelated to each other and to the victims' line of work, it still calls for a thorough investigation and for the killers to be identified and locked up behind bars," Roxas said.

"I feel very sad for them and their families that their lives had to end this way," he added.

He noted that Dalaig, who had been serving for thirty years and was about to retire, handled all legal cases in the Comelec including those concerning electoral protests. Dalaig also signed the arrest order against another Comelec officer named Lintang Bedol.

Senator Roxas said futile attempts to locate the elusive election officer should prompt the Department of Foreign Affairs to cancel the passport of Bedol.

"If Mr. Bedol managed to slip out of the country, then it is up to the DFA to cancel his passport and alert our embassies and consulates that he is a fugitive from justice," Roxas said.

The senator noted that the inability of law enforcers to enforce a warrant of arrest on Bedol has a direct effect on the PNP's credibility.

"The PNP must arrest Lintang Bedol and also resolve the cold-blooded murders of Dalaig and del Rosario. I urge those who have inside information about these cases to help the PNP accomplish its mission," Roxas said.
