Cancel the broadband deal -- Villar

Cancel the broadband deal.

Senate President Manny Villar said it is the proper action to take in the wake of tumultuous developments surrounding the national broadband network (NBN) contract.

"With the mess sullying the broadband deal, it is best to cancel it. There are many things which need to be explained, many personalities involved concerning a huge amount, and we could not even justify why we need to borrow a substantial sum when specifics have not been set," Villar said in an interview with reporters.

At the same time, the Senate President expressed dismay at the reported gag order imposed on cabinet officials regarding the $330-million NBN contract between the government and Chinese firm ZTE Corp.

"I would like to think that this is untrue as it is utterly unfit for a President to impose a gag order on her cabinet especially on matters affecting national interest," Villar explained.
