Kiko on political bickering in the Senate

Let's focus on legislation and put a ceasefire on political sniping. I appeal to both the majority and the minorty in the Senate to focus on the needed legislation today and put off hitting each other to a later more appropriate time.

We just had a politically divisive election. We should not linger on political infighting longer than necessary. Our people want an end to politics as usual and want us to focus on genuine service and leadership.

I propose a ceasefire on election related political statements between the majority and the minorty until May 2009 or one year before the 2010 elections.

In the meantime I reiterate my proposal to call for an all senators worhshop to identify our legisative agenda for the next three years. Senators should first talk to one another. We can criticize one another later. The first order of business is for us to exercise restraint, avoid coming out with blazing guns and see how it is we can work together.

More than anything else our people want their leaders to find solutions to the country's serious problems regardless of our political affiliations. Whether opposition, administation or independent we should set aside partisan political differences and work together to address the crisis in education, the generation of jobs and employment and the stregthening of our justice system, among others.
