VILLAR TO KEYNOTE CFA INSTITUTE'S 60TH ANNIVERSARY

Senate President Manny Villar will be the keynote speaker at the CFA Institute's 60th anniversary and the CFA Philippines' 10th anniversary at the Renaissance Makati City Hotel today (June 13) at 7 p.m.

The CFA Institute, formerly called the Association for Investment Management and Research which was created in 1990 when the Financial Analysts Federation merged with the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts, aims to lead the investment profession globally by setting high standards of ethics, education and professional excellence.

CFA Institute members consist of over 84,000 investment professionals in 128 countries, including the world's 69,000 Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholders.

"With the borderless movement of capital in the global economy, the CFA stands as a prestigious club of experts attuned to the requisites, peculiarities and complexities of financial markets," said Villar.

The Senate President is set to discuss proposals to address the needs of the financial sector and push the development of the capital markets.

CFA's current officers are: Jeffrey J. Diermeier, CFA, from the United States, president and chief executive officer; Vincent Duhamel, CFA, from Hong Kong, board of governors chairman; and Emilio Gonzalez, CFA, from Australia, board of governors vice-chairman.

The institute is known for developing and administering the CFA curriculum and examinations and issuing the CFA charter.

Established in 1962, the CFA program sets the global standard for investment knowledge, standards and ethics, making one eligible to earn the credentials after passing a series of three sequential, six-hour examinations over at least two years working as an investment professional for a minimum of four years, and committing to abide by the CFA Institute code of ethics and standards for professional conduct.

First awarded in 1963, the CFA charter has become known as the gold standard of professional credentials within the global investment community, with investors recognizing it as the measure of competence and integrity in the fields of portfolio management and investment analysis.
