KIKO CALLS ON PNP, NBI TO HASTEN SEARCH FOR JONAS BURGOS

"We call on the PNP and NBI to join the search for Jonas Burgos, who was allegedly abducted by armed men. The PNP should proactively respond to these allegations. They need to exert all efforts to finding him immediately.

Jonas' case is not only a matter of national interest because of his father, the late press freedom fighter Joe Burgos, but because this is another alleged case of political repression. These incidents have no place in a democracy and the swelling number of these cases should be immediately dealt with and its perpetrators convicted.

We also call on the National Bureau of Investigation to probe Jonas' disappearance. The testimonies we have now provide leads for investigators to pursue the case and we ask authorities to act appropriately and swiftly on the matter.

We call on the public that whoever may have information about his disappearance to come out and provide leads to the authorities. I pray for comfort for his family during this difficult time. These abductions will only end when the perpetrators are punished. Until we get swift punishment, there will be rampant disregard of the rule of law."
