KIKO CONDEMNS DEATH OF INDON PRIEST

Senate Majority Leader Kiko Pangilinan today condemned the killing of an Indonesian priest in Kalinga Apayao, saying the death of the missionary reflects the dire situation of human rights in the country.

Rev. Fr. Fransiskus Madhu, who was preparing to celebrate Palm Sunday Mass, died after suffering from five bullet wounds. The motive of the murder is still unknown.

"We are appalled by the report that a priest was gunned down in broad daylight right before celebrating mass. This not only reflects the dire situation of human rights in our country but also the weak prosecutory arm of our police. The boldness of these criminals should be a wakeup call to our authorities. We need to step up our efforts to enforce the law," Kiko said.

"We call on the PNP to resolve this case, as well as the many other unsolved cases, lest we reinforce the growing notion that this country is a lawless nation and anyone can get away with cosmmitting crimes," Kiko ended.
