ON THE OBSERVANCE OF THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

"In the Philippines, perhaps more than in any other country, the woman plays the role of keeping the family intact and harmonious. However, poverty has been unforgiving to most Filipinas hat a great number are forced to leave their homes and their country, in search of opportunities that will help their loved ones get by."

"I believe that a meaningful observance of women's day is giving attention to the plight of the Filipino woman as breadwinner and homemaker. We need to craft policies that will further protect their rights and provide opportunities so that they will not be deprived of their family and their home. Policies that will alleviate poverty and strengthen the Filipino family."

"The Filipina, being innately selfless, tends to put herself last. It's high time we reverse this system."
