KIKO VISITS GAWAD KALINGA SITE IN BASECO

An advocate of breakthrough housing system and supporter of Ramon Magsaysay awardee Gawad Kalinga (GK), Senate Majority Leader and independent senatorial candidate Kiko Pangilinan today visited the GK Village in Baseco, Tondo, Manila.

"As former Chair of the Senate Committee on Housing, it has been our advocacy to provide decent housing for the poor," Kiko said. "Gawad Kalinga has been a reliable ally over the years in giving our Filipino families the chance to start their lives over."

Kiko touched base with the GK residents of Baseco, which is GK's model site, and had lunch with members of Gawad Kalinga and Couples For Christ (CFC).

"Because of Gawad Kalinga the people can share with our country's economic gains. GK helps it to trickle to the 'poorest of the poor,'" said Kiko, who donated over P40 million of his PDAF to help build communities and reform lives nationwide through Gawad Kalinga.

"We started supporting Gawad Kalinga in 2001 when there were only two sites for the project. We are very happy now that it has grown into 300 sites nationwide. We feel very happy that our support for GK has gone a long way," Kiko added.

"As it replicates, Gawad Kalinga in poor villages nationwide also helps ease the housing problem in urban areas" Kiko explained. "The people no longer need to go to Metro Manila because they could already have a better life with their family in the countryside."
