Recto, Arroyo bats for local tourism
Savors whitewater rafting in Cagayan de Oro

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY ---- Senators Ralph Recto and Joker Arroyo on Thursday took time out of their hectic political campaign to savor the pleasure of white rafting, which is now becoming a popular attraction in this city.

He added that by plunging into the river and conquering it through white rafting, we are already promoting Cagayan de Oro as a tourist draw in Northern Mindanao.

Napakaraming magagandang lugar sa Pilipinas at ang Cagayan de Oro ay isa sa maaaring malaking tourist attraction sa bansa, Recto said.

For his part, Arroyo explained: We have been campaigning long and hard and its already getting into our heads. This is really a welcome relief.

Both Recto and Arroyo proceeded to Cagayan de Oro in the course of their swing in Northern Mindanao, covering Lanao del Norte and Misamis Occidental and Oriental.

Recto has been batting for the redevelopment of the Iligan-Cagayan de Oro industrial corridor, which used to be a very productive area with steel producers, a copper smelter and even the Philippine Veterans Industrial Development Center (Phividec).

The Batangas senator also visited a mall in Cagayan de Oro City, donned a hard hat in Iligan and marveled at the tourist spots in the city and in Iligan, along with the lush farms in Lanao del Norte.

Aside from being a highly urbanized city in Northern Luzon, Cagayan de Oro also hosts a large archaeological site near the airport.

Recto said local government units (LGUs) should promote their own tourist attractions and lauded the city government here for promoting white rafting.

White rafting has been luring a lot of people who find the task of negotiating the Cagayan de Oro River arduous, something akin to shooting the rapids in Pagsanjan, Laguna many years ago.
