SEN. LACSONS STATEMENT ON SEC. GONZALEZS CLAIMS
REGARDING THE DISMISSAL OF PERJURY CASE VS FORMER POLL COMMISSIONER VIRGILIO GARCILLANO JR.

For once, in the spirit of the holiday season, Sec. Gonzalez should stop lying about the dropping of the perjury case against Garcillano by throwing the blame on the complainants supposed failure to attend the preliminary investigation. For the record, I personally went to the Quezon City Prosecutors Office at least twice to pursue the case. My office never received any more summonses after the Padre Faura office took away the case from the Quezon City prosecutor in a sneaky fashion.

Further, we presented more than enough evidence to establish probable cause. If Gonzalez was looking at guilt beyond reasonable doubt, he must be told that it is the function of the court, which is what we intend to do had the DOJ filed the information.

The truth is, they can ill afford to antagonize Garcillano lest he might tell the truth about the cheating in the May 2004 elections, which will inevitably implicate Mrs. Arroyo and the others who participated in prostituting the May 2004 elections.
