PIMENTEL HITS BACK AT ADMINISTRATION FORCES
FOR DENIGRATING ANTI-CHARTER CHANGE RALLY

Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Q. Pimentel, Jr. (PDP-Laban) today said last Sundays prayer-rally at Rizal Park against the administrations flawed and ill-motivated Charter Change was the largest mass protest action since the fraud-tainted May 2004 presidential election.

Pimentel said there is nothing to be disappointed about the gathering even if the crowd fell short of expectation. He assailed administration hacklers for denigrating the attendance at the prayer-rally which was essentially an expression of thanksgiving after the administration congressmen and Malacañang decided to drop the plan to amend the Constitution by Constituent Assembly.

The rally was the biggest after Gloria manipulated the 2004 presidential election, he said.

Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales message that what we need is character change instead of Charter Change hit a responsive chord in the hearts of the people.

Pimentel also said Cardinal Rosales echoed the peoples sentiments when he called for a no-nonsense revamp of the Comelec; holding of the May 2007 national and local elections and holding of a Constitutional Convention as the best way to amend the Constitution.
