Las Pias celebrates annual Parol Festival
Senate President Villar to lead cultural activities and unveiling of projects

The City of Las Pias celebrates on Friday (December 15, 2006) the annual Parol Festival, with Senate President Manny Villar leading the festivities.

The festival will be highlighted by a dazzling display of Christmas lanterns made of capiz, bamboo and other indigenous materials. The festival also seeks to bring back the old, glory days when people look up to Las Pias as the countrys Parol Capital while at the same time providing livelihood and income to Las Pinas folks.

Senate President Manny Villar said the colorful and well-crafted lanterns that would be put on display during the daylong festivities represents three generations of parol making in Las Pias.

The opening ceremony is highlighted by the launch of a coffee table book entitled A City with Heritage to be led by Rep. Cynthia Villar. The book gives readers a glimpse of Las Pias then and now, showcasing its rich culture and heritage.

Topping the days events is a program at the CAA Compound, where Vice President Noli de Castro and Senate President Villar will hand over 600 land titles to indigent families in the area.

To make the event more meaningful, Senate President Villar will preside over various activities focusing on education, health and housing.

Senate President Villar will lead the turn over of P1 million worth of computers to the Las Pias District Main High School, which would benefit thousands of public school students as part of his commitment in prioritizing the improvement of education.

The Villars will also lead the inauguration of a brand new elevator system at the Las Pias General Hospital and Satellite Trauma Center, to further address the health needs of patients who cannot afford hospitalization in Las Pias and even those in Paraaque and Cavite. They will also take the lead in the blood- letting activity afterwards.
