VILLAR LAUDS PNP ROWING TEAM
FOR BAGGING GOLD MEDALS IN SINGAPORE

Files resolutions commending the 29-man team for their victory

Senate President Manny Villar says that the triumph of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Rowing Team in the recently concluded SAVA Spring International 2006 Dragon Boat Races in Singapore serves as good news amidst reports of the havoc wreaked by super-typhoon Milenyo all over the country.

After the disaster that we have experienced, its good to hear about some positive news like the victory of the 29 PNP rowers led by Superintendent Dennis Agustin and Chief Inspector Gonzalo Villamor. They bagged the overall championship award against 20 other teams from other countries. They did the country proud, says Villar, President of the Nacionalista Party.

Villar filed a Senate Resolution today to formally congratulate and commend the PNP Rowing Team in their feat in the boat race at the Bedok Reservoir in Singapore.

We should really encourage our police force to engage in sports and other athletic activities, not only as a hobby or pastime but as a competitive endeavor as well. The PNP rowing team serves as a good example to other sports buff in the force, adds Villar.

The PNP Rowing Team garnered three Gold Medals in the 200 and 500-meter Mixed International Open event as well as the 500-meter Freestyle International Open event. The team also won two Bronze Medals in the 500-meter Men's International Open and the 1,000-meter Super Cup Men's Final.
