VILLAR VISITS TAGBILARAN
Inaugurates Bohol Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative Inc.

Senate President Manny Villar, President of the Nacionalista Party, will inaugurate tomorrow (Saturday, September 23), P5-million post-harvest facilities he financed for the Bohol Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative Inc. or BOFAMCO.

I am glad that this project (post-harvest facilities) is completed. This will surely benefit many Boholano farmers and would further boost the agricultural output of Bohol, says Villar.

Bohol, with its efficient rice and corn hybridization program, is one of the leading agricultural producers in Central Visayas. Based on data from the province website: Bohol produces 66% of rice, 54% of fish and other marine products, 44% of livestock and 72% of root crops in Central Visayas. It is also a top producer of coconut and mangoes, and is the only province in Luzon and the Visayas engaged in palm oil plantation.

Having been the chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, I can relate to the challenges faced by Filipino farmers. Thus, I did not hesitate to help fund this harvest facility in Bohol. I also believe that cooperatives contribute significantly to cushion impacts of rising costs of farm products or inputs, further cites Villar.

BOFAMCO is recognized as the most outstanding cooperative in Bohol. It has produced hybrid rice seeds under the Provincial Governments A x B and A x R program, for the rice hybridization project and even for export to Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Leyte and Southern Leyte.
