NOMINATION SPEECH FOR SEN. MANUEL B. VILLAR, JR.

It is my honor to second the nomination of Sen. Manuel Bamba Villar, Jr. as the 20th Senate President of the Republic of the Philippines. From one great leader, Senator Franklin M. Drilon, who led the Senate through tough times, showed courage and stood up for what he believed in, Sen. Villar is the best person to succeed and lead the Senate and this country. Like his predecessor, this man, Sen. Villar, will ensure that the checks and balances that make a democracy work and the basic fundamental rights and freedoms of our people will not be trampled upon. He is a man who will continue the Senate's crucial role in maintaining good governance.

Sen. Manny Villar is a person whose values are beyond question, who will stand up for moral issues and whose life experiences brought him to where he is now, a tenacious leader and a true representation of the Filipino dream. Born to a life of poverty, he worked as a fish vendor while going to school and through hard work and the Lord's blessing, is now one of the most successful businessmen of our country. This is what our nation needs. A man with a dream, a man with a vision, a man with courage and a man with conviction.
