LEGITIMATE OPPOSITION DOES NOT ESPOUSE USE OF VIOLENCE IN REMOVING PRESIDENT FROM OFFICE

Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Nene Q. Pimentel, Jr. (PDP-Laban) today dared government authorities to file appropriate charges against members of the legitimate opposition whom they accuse of conniving with communist insurgents in toppling the Arroyo government.

He emphasized that the opposition does not subscribe to the employment of violent means in bringing down the government.

As far as the Senate opposition is concerned, we have not conspired with anyone to use violence to topple Arroyo from power, Pimentel said.

All we have done is to advocate the Presidents resignation from office or removal from office through peaceful means. Those who believe that any member of the legitimate opposition has advocated violent methods to remove Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo from office should file the necessary charges against specific members of the opposition so that those concerned could avail of the defenses that the law allows them to have a remedy against the scurrilous libel that is thrown at their direction.
