Gatchalian: Tobacco tax to help finance Universal Health Care: Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, chairman of the Senate Committee on Economic Affairs, views the exhibit on World No Tobacco Day launched at the Philippine Senate Hallway in Pasay City Monday. Gatchalian said funds derived from an increase in the tax of tobacco products could finance the government’s Universal Health Care program. “Experts agree that increasing the tax on tobacco products is the most effective way of lowering the number of smokers in the country,” Gatchalian said.
