Women's voices and participation: Akbayan Senator Risa Hontiveros on Friday discussed the importance of increasing women’s participation in society at the International Women’s Day Summit 2019 organized by the Office of the Vice President and the SPARK Philippines. Hontiveros, Chair of the Senate Committee on Women, said that there have been significant gains in women’s rights legislation despite the challenging sociopolitical climate, in particular the signing of the Expanded Maternity Leave Law. She also said that creating a more equal world, and fighting social problems such as poverty, would only be possible if participation from all sections of society was enabled.
