Sen. Cynthia Villar pushes for the local cow production to avoid milk importation: Senator Cynthia A. Villar, chair of the Senate Agriculture and Food committee, asked Agriculture Sec. Manny Pinol the reason for the National Dairy Authority (NDA)’s failure to meet the country’s demand for milk. Pinol asserted the lack of genetics as the reason for the milk importation, saying there are only 2000 cows available in the country for artificial insemination or embryo transfer. Villar encourages the agriculture sector particularly stakeholders in the dairy production to produce in the country cows that are adapted to our conditions. He also encourages backyard farming that engages taking care of carabao and goats. The senator conducted a hearing on the operations of the NDA and its accomplishments.
