FIRST-TIME JOBSEEKERS ASSISTANCE ACT OF 2017: Senator Joel Villanueva, chair of the Committee on Youth talks with Bureau of Local Employment Director Dominique Tutay of the Labor Department before the start of a committee hearing discussing a proposal which seeks to ease the challenges faced by first-time jobseekers. What was discussed was a proposal to waive fees collected by government agencies for the issuance of documents needed for employment. “Exempting new graduates and most especially, early school leavers and dropouts from fees and charges on pre-employment documents will surely lessen their economic woes, and maintain their motivation to actively pursue employment. It will also serve as an effective way to connect first-time jobseekers to job opportunities in the country,” Villanueva said during the hearing, Tuesday, August 22, 2017.
