EXTENDING THE RENT CONTROL PERIODS OF RESIDENTIAL UNITS: Senator JV Ejercito, chair of the Senate Committee on Urban Planning, Housing and Resettlement, discusses a proposal, Tuesday, August 22, 2017, which seeks to ensure that lower income families will continue to be guaranteed affordable housing options and will prevent them from resorting to informal housing settlements. Senate Bill 806 seeks to extend the rent control periods of residential units from December 31, 2013 to December 31, 2020, within which the rent of any residential unit covered by the Rent Control Act of 2009 “shall not be increased by more than 7 percent annually as long as the unit is occupied by the same lessee.” (PRIB Photo by Romeo Bugante)
