ZUBIRI PUSHES FOR BUSINESS-FRIENDLY GOVERNMENT PROCESSES: Speaking at the Philippine Franchise Association General Membership Meeting recently at the SMX Mall of Asia in Pasay City, Sen. Juan Miguel F. Zubiri announced that the country improved in rank from 103 in 2016 to 99 in 2017 in Global Competitiveness but slid 6 ranks lower in Ease-of-Doing Business. Zubiri said the Committee on Trade, Commerce and Enterpreneurship which he chairs is optimistic in passing the Expanded Anti Red Tape Act soon to cut business permitting processes in the Philippines now at a high of 16. He challenged government agencies to at least be on the same footing as Thailand and Laos with only 6 steps for setting up new businesses.
