RAISE NATIVE ANIMALS: Sen. Cynthia Villar, vice chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food, presided over the hearing on Senate Bill 144 or the Philippine Native Animal Development Act on Wednesday. Villar is pushing for the propagation of native animals, which are easier and cheaper to raise in this climate, to address the growing consumption of meat among Filipinos. Villar also stressed the potential of native animals as a niche product of the Philippines given the popularity of native chicken inasal and native pig lechon. The hearing was also attended by Philippine Carabao Center Exec. Dir. Arnel del Barrio and Bureau of Animal Industry Asst. Bureau Dir. Simeon Amurao.
