LEGARDA WITH SILK WEAVERS FROM BACNOTAN: Senator Loren Legarda talks to silk weavers from Bacnotan, La Union during the demonstration organized by the National Museum, in partnership with the Senator, at the National Museum of Anthropology in Manila on August 27, 2016. Legarda said that the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), thru its National Greening Program (NGP), should propagate plants that weavers and local textile industry need, such as Tayum, which is the source of indigo, the Red Spanish Pineapple, and Mulberry for silk production.

The demonstration also featured weavers from Kalibo, Aklan and embroiderers from Lumban, Laguna. These demonstrations are part of the Lecture Series on Philippine Traditional Textiles and Indigenous Knowledge, which Legarda and the National Museum initiated in 2012 to perpetuate weaving and indigenous knowledge.
