PIMENTEL AT IAEA CONFERENCE ON NUCLEAR POWER: Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III talks about the country’s willingness to look for alternatives to fossil fuel during his welcome remarks at the Conference on the Prospects for Nuclear Power in the Asia-Pacific Region organised by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the Diamond Hotel, City of Manila. Pimentel said that any conclusion to be made by the Philippines regarding the potential use of nuclear energy must be based on scientific evidence and not on political or ideological considerations. “Many countries have benefitted from nuclear power. But it can also have very serious negative consequences, especially in a country located in what is called the Pacific Ring of Fire. Hence, we must study nuclear power carefully,” he said.
