HELICOPTER DEAL PROBE: Senator Teofisto “TG” Guingona III, Blue Ribbon Committee chair, conducts an inquiry on Wednesday, May 20, into the alleged anomalous acquisition of 21 combat utility helicopters by the Department of National Defense (DND) in December 2013. During the hearing, officials from the DND said they chose to purchase 21 UH-1D, which is said to be an older and phased-out model. Senator Juan Victor “JV” Ejercito, who filed the resolution to conduct the inquiry, said the procurement of 40 to 50-year old helicopters is contrary to the AFP Modernization Program.
