THE REAL MEANING OF HUMAN RIGHTS: Senate President Franklin M. Drilon addresses more than 100 parliamentarians, heads of national human rights institutes and other officials who attended the Asia-Pacific Regional Seminar hosted by the Senate, Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the Diamond Hotel, Manila City. Quoting South African leader Nelson Mandela, Drilon said that "to deny people their human rights is to challenge their very humanity;" and that the event is a unique opportunity for the attending legislators to reflect on the real meaning of human rights as a basic tool of true democracy.
