INSTALLING SPEED LIMITERS: Sen. JV Ejercito, Chair of the Senate Committee on Public Services, conduct a hearing on a bill mandating the installation of speed limiters on all public utility buses, Wednesday, January 28, 2015. The measure, he says, aims to protect people from speed related accidents such as the incident involving a Don Mariano Transit bus which sped its way off the Skyway on December 16, 2013, and landed on the southbound lane of the South Luzon Expressway, claiming the lives of 21 people. A speed limiter is a device which limits the top speed of a moving vehicle to a pre-programmed maximum speed per hour. Once the pre-determined top speed is reached, the computer steps in and restricts the flow of air and fuel to the engine and it will unable to exceed the maximum speed.
