WORLD FOOD DAY: Sen. Cynthia A. Villar vows support to the Greenpeace Philippines initiatives to promote “ecological agriculture” because it empowers us to plant, grow and harvest our own food that is clean, grown naturally and free from synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. In a speech delivered on the Senate plenary in observance of the World Food Day, the senator noted she has been active advocate of urban gardening using composts from household wastes as fertilizers. “Aside from destroying soil fertility and the quality of agricultural soil and the other harmful effects to the environment, we all know that synthetic or inorganic pesticides and fertilizers are expensive and reduces the income of farmers,” says the senator, chair of the Senate Agriculture and Food Committee.
