REUNITED: Bagumbayan presidential candidate Sen. Richard Gordon happily embraces Maritess Maderal, a survivor from the sinking of the MV Asuncion in December 1985 off Zambales. Gordon took care of Maderal, then only 14 years old, until her father Jose, who also survived the accident, fetched her from Gordon’s house several months later. Twenty-five years after the tragedy, the two were reunited during one of Gordon’s campaign sorties in Camarines Sur.
